About Us
Organization Description:
Team Runstar is a registered non-profit organization fitness group that
works with community donations, membership funds and event proceeds to
perform charitable services to designated children's organizations in
the Wayne County area and beyond.
Mission Statement:
Comprised mainly of local fitness enthusiasts, Team Runstar is a
non-profit organization dedicated to health, wellness and the
empowerment of people in the Wayne County area. We strive to unlock the
athletic potential in people, while building funds for children's
charities in our hometown. Team Runstar believes that community
improvement starts with it's youngest members. While we provide and fund
opportunities for our youth, we become better people along the way.
Healthy bodies, open hearts and warm wishes - Team Runstar is out to let
everyone's inner rock star shine.
Motto:
"Let your inner rock star shine!"
Organization Officers:
Jeannie Maritato - Runstar Director
Amy Neugebauer - Asst. Director and Expo Coordinator
Nettie Jackson - Volunteer Operations
Karen Gannon - Sponsorship and Sales Director
Brandon Maritato - Production Manager
Organization History:
"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." - Muhatma Gandhi
The idea of one woman was shared with another. As their friendship
grew, so did the reality of that brainstorm. The two realized that
together, combining strengths, Team Runstar would hit the ground
running. Literally.
Jeannie Maritato,
fitness expert and personal trainer, started Runstar. For a year, her
clients competed in pink, sweeping local races with style and obvious
team comradery.
Rebecca Maciejewski, special education teacher and coach, was a part of the original Runstar squad and a client of Jeannies. She enjoyed competing with a team, as it was something she's done all her life.
Jeannie and Becca's conversations changed from the usual, "That was
an amazing race!" to "Hey, we could really take this Runstar thing to
the next level." Thus, Team Runstar evolved from their mutual trust and
love of fitness, friends and service work.
2011 is the first "official" year of Team Runstar, as a registered non-profit organization. Jeannie Maritato,
Founding Member, serves as Captain of the organization along with
some of the other original Team Runstar members. They hosted a "Sampling Party" in April 2011 to kick
off the year. Plans in the works, include several summer
"Check-your-Ego-at-the-Door" Challenges and a 5k Race in September. We
hope for as much excitement in our following year. This is a lot of
work, but well worth it! We hope to make an impact on our community that
is long lasting. 2012 marks a growing period. Due to an incredible
demand for fitness in our area, indicating opportunity for growth,
plus the birth of her first child, Jeannie decided to bring on board a "Super Team"! This
new Board made up of some of the original "Runstar Squad" will be comprised of service spirited and like minded people,
true leaders of this community. It is Team Runstar's hope that we can
grow stronger to better serve our Team members and everyone who wants to
be a "RUN*STAR"!
Who Does Team Runstar Benefit?
Team Runstar is a government registered non-profit organization.
Charitable donations will be awarded mostly in the Wayne County Area. One of our greatest beneficiaries past has been the ARC of Wayne County, namely Dyberry
Day Camp and In 2011 $2,100 was raised and donated to DyberryCamp. Many
local businesses and charities were part of this community service. Dyberry
Day Camp is a camp for children with various physical and mental
disabilities in the Wallenpaupack, Honesdale and Waymart Areas. The camp
runs the entire month of July and is completely free to these children
and their families.
2012 Marks a new era of contributions. With the success of our first Runstar 5k, we are honored to have a new friend in Allied Services Integrated Health Services, another community driven non-profit. Allied Services is the leading provider of healthcare and human services
for northeastern Pennsylvanians with disabilities and chronic illness.
As a not-for-profit corporation, they work to advance the health,
independence and life quality of our consumers and of the people of our
region. Throughout its 53-year history, Allied has been guided by a
commitment to delivering compassionate care of the highest quality.
Allied Services Integrated Health System has been honored to have been
an official charity of the internationally renowned ING New York City
Marathon since 2010. As WNEP-TV’s Ryan Leckey and his team of local
runners have run through the five boroughs of New York, they have also
raised funds for and awareness of children and adults with disabilities
in Northeastern Pennsylvania who are served by Allied Services. They are
now preparing for the 2012 race.
We are excited to support the good works that Allied Services and Ryan's Run bring with their commitment to our community.
